①What Is Astrocartography?

Astrocartography is a form of locational astrology that maps your birth chart onto the world. It shows where the Sun, Moon, and other planets were rising, setting, overhead, or below the horizon at the time of your birth.

These positions are displayed as planetary lines across a world map. In traditional astrology, different planetary lines are associated with different themes, such as relationships, career, home, communication, growth, and personal expression.

In simple terms, astrocartography takes your birth chart and places it on a map, allowing you to explore how different locations are traditionally interpreted through astrology.

Locational astrology

It maps where the Sun, Moon, and other planets were rising, setting, overhead, or below the horizon at your birth.

Planetary lines

Those positions become lines on a world map, each traditionally associated with different life themes.

②What Does the Calculator Calculate?

An Astrocartography Calculator uses your birth date, birth time, and birth location to calculate a personalized astrocartography map.

It determines where the planets in your birth chart were rising, setting, overhead, or below the horizon at the time of your birth. These positions are then projected onto the Earth as planetary lines.

The result is a world map showing where your planetary lines fall, allowing you to explore different locations through the lens of traditional astrology.

  • Birth DateDetermines the planetary positions used in your birth chart.
  • Birth TimeHelps determine the exact angles and geographic positions of the planetary lines.
  • Birth LocationProvides the geographic and time-zone reference needed for the calculation.

③How Do You Read Your Map?

Your astrocartography map shows planetary lines crossing the world. Choose a planet, follow its line, and explore the locations it passes through.

Explore the themes traditionally associated with that planetary line and location.

④What Can Astrocartography Tell You About a Place?

In traditional astrology, different planetary lines are interpreted as emphasizing different themes in the locations they cross. The meaning of a place depends on the planet and angle represented by the line. People commonly explore astrocartography in relation to love, relationships, career, home, travel, personal growth, and relocation.

Love & Relationships

Venus and other relationship-related placements are traditionally explored when looking at themes of attraction, connection, harmony, and partnership.

Career & Public Life

Sun, Jupiter, Mars, Saturn, and other planetary placements may be explored in relation to ambition, visibility, responsibility, achievement, and professional development.

Home & Belonging

Moon and IC-related placements are traditionally associated with themes such as home, family, emotional connection, and a sense of belonging.

Travel & Exploration

Astrocartography can also be used to compare destinations and explore which planetary lines pass through or near places you are interested in visiting.

Astrocartography is a tool for astrological interpretation and personal exploration. These traditional associations are not scientifically established effects and do not predict exactly what will happen in a particular location.

⑤What Are Planetary Lines?

Why it matters

Traditionally associated with identity, confidence, visibility, creativity, and self-expression.

⑥What Are the Four Angles?

ASC

Self & Identity

The Ascendant, or ASC, is traditionally associated with self-expression, identity, appearance, and how you approach the world.

DSC

Relationships & Others

The Descendant, or DSC, is traditionally associated with partnerships, relationships, and interactions with other people.

MC

Career & Public Life

The Midheaven, or MC, is traditionally associated with career, reputation, achievement, and public life.

IC

Home & Private Life

The IC is traditionally associated with home, family, roots, privacy, and your inner sense of belonging.

In astrocartography, a planetary line is best understood as a planet + angle combination. For example, a Venus ASC line and a Venus MC line both involve Venus, but they are traditionally interpreted through different areas of life.

⑦Why Does Birth Time Matter?

Your birth time is important because astrocartography depends on the relationship between the planets and the four chart angles at the moment of birth.

A more precise birth time can produce more precise planetary line locations. If your birth time is unknown or uncertain, the resulting map may be less precise, particularly for angle-based lines.

Don't know your exact birth time?

You can still explore your chart, but keep in mind that the location of some lines may be less precise.
